Guide

Should you tailor your CV for every job?

Not every job needs a completely different CV, but the version sent should make the most relevant experience easy for the employer to find.

A useful CV adjustment is usually about emphasis rather than rewriting your history. The job description may focus on a particular skill, responsibility or type of experience that already exists in your background.

What can be changed

The order of bullet points, the wording used to describe genuine responsibilities and the amount of space given to different experience can be adjusted so the CV is easier to scan for that role.

What should not change

Qualifications, employers, dates, responsibilities and results should stay truthful. Tailoring a CV should not mean inventing experience to match a vacancy.

Keeping track of different CV versions

If different roles use different versions, it is useful to record which CV was sent with each application. The application dashboard is designed to keep that information with the employer and role so you can refer back to it later.
